Helping Local Churches

For years, The River has been serving the body of Christ by providing Biblically-anchored training to aid Christians in their growth and to encourage them in their own walk with Jesus and active participation in their respective local churches. The River is committed to local churches in all we do.

From the start, the vision of the ministry has been to partner with local churches. Serving attendees is a big part of that. But serving and partnering with local church leaders is also a critical component of our vision.

Along side the courses offered for any and all who are interested, The River builds into the life of local churches—and their leaders—in more tailored ways.

  • We can provide “in house” training targeting specific areas of growth of interest to the leadership. We’ve been invited to teach classes on reading Scripture, leadership development, and marriage, among other topics. Offerings like these free up local leaders from having to prepare material while still enabling a local church to provide focused, needed training.
  • We can provide personal coaching and training for pastors and leaders, bringing an objective, Biblically-rooted perspective to the carrying out of the call to shepherd a local church. Whether a short-term, challenge-specific partnership or a long-term mentoring relationship, The River is partnering with local leaders to support and encourage the growth of local churches.

What Pastors Are Saying

The River Upstate has been an incredible resource for our Freedom Church family. The great thing about the classes The River offers is that they are not just lecture, but participatory. The “labs” in the “Reading Scripture” class are particularly effective. We’ve hosted a number of River classes for our community including “Reading Scripture,” “Am I Gifted?,” “Don’t Manage Your Anger,” “What If Prayer Really Was Conversation?” and “Marriage: God’s Design for the Foundation.” I can say that every time I could look into the eyes of our people and realize they were seeing the truth of Scripture in a fresh and encouraging way. Ultimately, The River has helped our people develop a confidence in their own ability to read scripture well.

The River has had a significant impact on the culture of discipleship at the church where I serve as pastor. The “Reading Scripture” class is a prerequisite for all of our small group leaders and it sets the tone for how our groups approach the Scripture. Additionally, so many of our members have benefited greatly from the many other classes The River offers. For me personally, I have grown in my relationship with Jesus, in my love for Scripture, and as a pastor/teacher through The River. The River is one of the best resources I’ve seen for pastors, church leaders, and lay persons in the Upstate.
